McNeill Wins Prestigous Gala Photography Award
Academy of Art University photography student Christina McNeill
recently won an award at the first annual International Photography
Award Gala.
The Gala Awards, held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills,
gathered luminaries from the international photography community
to laud this year's most outstanding achievements. The mission of
the Gala Awards ceremony is "to salute the achievements of
the world's finest photographers, to discover new and emerging talent,
and to promote the appreciation of photography."
As an excellent example of discovering "new and emerging talent",Christina
McNeill placed first in the 'Other Photojournalism' category. Ms.
McNeill cites her instructor Jay Watson as the guiding force behind
her winning work. "I didn't think I'd win first place. I'm
excited that it has happened to me and I'm only 20 years old. I
was completely inspired by my teacher Jay Watson. He pushed me to
do what I really wanted to do." Ms. McNeill submitted twelve
photographs, all part of a documentary series entitled The Lifestyles
of the Poor and Unfamous.
Her work will be published soon in a book with the other contest
winners
