The first step to success in your education at BCTI is Integrated Computer Applications (ICA), also known as Phase 1. This exciting program is filled with many "hands-on" applications and job-like experiences that will lay a solid foundation for the rest of your career. In only 7.5 months, students in Phase 1 can be prepared for employment by becoming comfortable with today’s technology through learning skills to succeed in the following areas:


Software Integration
Use multiple software applications in completion of a single project.
Word process documents for the business environment.
Compile and edit spreadsheets.
Use presentation software.
Link and update information across applications.
Embed software objects from other applications.

Internet
Begin navigating the World Wide Web.
Search the Internet for information.
Use the Internet as a job search tool.


Business Systems
Apply file management principles in the business computer network.
Demonstrate familiarity with Windows-based computer systems.
Use network log-on, etiquette, and navigation techniques.

Business Writing
Communicate effectively using business writing skills.
Write business letters and memos for a variety of purposes.
Perform word processing tasks such as mail merge.

Business Communication Basics
Write and present formal business reports.
Prepare and present electronic presentations.
Use electronic mail and calendar software.
Design, write, and produce newsletters, flyers and brochures.

Business Record-Keeping
Use data management software for business
Compile and edit electronic spreadsheets and understand basic bookkeeping principles.
Create worksheets, charts and graphs to represent business data.
Touch-type on the computer keyboard.
Use alpha-numeric data entry techniques.

Team Building and Professional Growth
Apply business ethics and etiquette.

Phase II
Those students who complete Phase I may choose to continue into Phase II of BCTI's Advanced Information Systems program. Phase II is also 7.5 months long, and prepares students for a broad range of entry-level Information Technology positions. Phase II gives students in-depth training to gain the skills to succeed in:

Identify and install computer components.
Build computers from separate components.
Understand the functions of computer drives, memory and processors.
Install and troubleshoot peripheral devices.

Understand the functions of operating systems.
Install and use Windows 98, Windows 2000 Professional and Windows XP.
Install, configure, and troubleshoot applications.
Diagnose and solve computer hardware, software, network and operating system challenges.
Use, integrate, and support Microsoft Office software.

World Wide Web Technology
Understand Web page design and creation principles.
Plan Web page features based on user needs.
Layout Web pages for various business applications.
Understand basic Wed design principles, including graphic appeal, storyboard and conception.
Evaluate a Web site.

Network Administration
Understand network fundamentals.
Identify and use major network operating systems.
Apply TCP/IP fundamentals and utilities.
Install and upgrade a network.
Set up user accounts and security for a network.
Troubleshoot basic network problems.
