If providing a fine dining experience found only at a five-star restaurant is what you crave, then getting your degree from a culinary institution is necessary. Often, in order to become a professional cook, you will need to attend a two or four-year program in a culinary program in order to secure the chef training you will need. You might take classes in food safety, sauces, and meat preparation. Once you have put in your time working as an apprentice to a professional chef or head cook, you will be able to navigate your own kitchen and prepare your own recipes. No educational program can guarantee salary rates, but salaries for head chefs can increase considerably, once you've learned the ropes.
